The magnificent Choo Tjoe steam train journey runs along the elemental stretch of coastal country between George and Knysna, on South Africa’s internationally celebrated Garden Route, reflecting, as it does, much of South Africa’s railway history.

The train departs daily, excluding Sundays and some public holidays, from Knysna at 9:45 am and arrives two and a half hours later in George, passing Goukamma, Sedgefield and Wilderness stations in between. Departure from George happens at 14:00 and arrival in Knysna is scheduled for 16:30

Advance reservations are necessary at least 24hours before departure. Trains will depart from and arrive at Knysna station. Souvenirs and memorabilia can be bought at the station and Outeniqua Transport Museum.

* Travel to the Over-the-mountain guesthouse and hops farm in Herold. Here you can enjoy the farm tours and atmosphere.

* The Ecobound mountainbike excursion. The Power Van takes the cyclist with mountainbikes to the top of the Montago Pass. Then they cycle down the historic scenic Montagu pass back to George.
